With Iron Man 3 kicking off Phase Two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), we can expect to see a lot of familiar faces and relationships. We have Tony and Pepper in Iron Man. We have Thor and Jane in Thor. However, Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America is still without a leading lady. The woman he was in love with in Captain America: The First Avenger, Peggy Carter, is in her nineties by now in the MCU. So it was pretty much a given for fans of the comics or the movie to figure that he would get a love interest in his second solo movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Well according to Deadline, Emily VanCamp of Revenge and Everwood fame is about to ink a deal to play the female lead of Captain America: The First Avenger. The leading female role is rumored to be Peggy Carter’s niece, Sharon Carter.
In October 2012, Deadline reported that the shortlist for the part was Emelia Clarke, Jessica Brown Findlay, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots and Alison Brie. So VanCamp, who wasn’t even mentioned, is a total surprise but not an unwelcome one. Have you guys seen Revenge? She can definitely play SHIELD agent Sharon Carter because those Carter woman are BAMFs baby.
The film hasn’t started production yet. Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be directed by the Russo Brothers, who produced and directed Community and Happy Endings. Reprising roles from the first movie will be Chris Evans as Captain Steve Rogers, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, and Toby Jones as Arnim Zola. Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders and Scarlett Johansson will be reprising roles as Nick Fury, Maria Hill and Natasha Romanov/The Black Widow. Newcomers to the MCU include Anthony Mackie as the superhero Falcon and Frank Grillo as supervillain Brock Rumlow/Crossbones.
