4Chan Targets Emma Watson After Powerful UN Speech

After the powerful speech Emma Watson gave this past week, people are not just praising her, but condemning her as well. Specifically, the website 4Chan.

After the powerful speech Emma Watson gave this past week, people are not just praising her, some are also condemning her.

One website in particular, 4chan, who were the cause for the recent leaked nude photos of celebrities, has painted a target on Emma’s back.

The website they’ve made specifically for their dish of revenge is EmmaYouAreNext.com. The website contains a photo of Emma’s head and a countdown to midnight tonight, September 24, the time when they are going to release stolen nude photos of her.

One magazine, Death and Taxes, printed some of the comments made post Emma’s speech.

That feminist bitch Emma is going to show the world she is as much of a whore as any woman.

She makes stupid feminist speeches at UN, and now her nudes will be online. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

During her speech a few days ago, Emma expressed her feelings on feminism.

[T]he more I have spoken about feminism the more I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one things I know for certain, it is that this has to stop.

I decided that I was a feminist and this seemed uncomplicated to me. But my recent research has shown me that feminism has become an unpopular word. Apparently I am among the ranks of women whose expressions are seen as too strong, too aggressive, isolating, anti-man and unattractive.

Many women are rallying behind Emma.

Elizabeth Plank, an activist who has started such trends as #WithoutTheWageGapIWould, tweeted:

Another woman, Amanda Taub, wrote, “If her stolen nude photos are leaked on the Internet in retaliation for her work, that will not mean that she was irresponsible or reckless, it will mean that she is brave. Regardless of whether any photos are released, the threats against Watson are already an attack on all of us. And we should take it personally.”

Fortunately, the website 4chan threatened Emma with turned out to be a fake created by Rantic, a social media marketing firm, who apparently aims to shut down 4chan. As of this morning, going to the hoax website would take the user to Rantic’s website.

Weirdly, Rantic might not even exist. Business Insider writes, “Rantic Marketing is a fake company run by a gang of prolific internet spammers used to quickly capitalize on internet trends for page views.”

I for one am glad that it was a hoax. After all that, all I’ve got to say is: Go Emma!
