Sentai Filmworks announced on Friday that last year’s much-loved, late summer hit Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun will be released with an English dub; cue the confetti and all-around excitement on my part. I would have been completely okay with a sub-only version, but Sentai has treated fans to a pleasant and unexpected surprise.
Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun is essentially about high school student Chiyo Sakura, who falls head over heels in love with classmate Umetaro Nozaki, who misunderstands Chiyo’s confession of love and instead thinks she’s a devoted fan. Nozaki’s misconception leads to Chiyo discovering that Nozaki is a famous shojo manga artist. Hilarity ensues as Chiyo becomes Nozaki’s assistant and in the process meets a slew of quirky characters.
Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, based on the manga of the same name, is arguably one of the best animes of 2014 and I simply cannot wait to binge watch the English dub upon its release; you can bet I’ll
pre-order this the minute it hits Amazon or RightStuf.
Sentai didn’t announce a release date or hint at who’s being cast as who. Sentai definitely picked up a gem of a series and here’s hoping they release it by the end of the year! The manga series has been licensed by Yen Press (yay!), but they have yet to announce when they plan on releasing the first volume. Again, I’m praying for an end of the year release date; I really don’t want to wait until 2016 to get my hands on both the English dub and the manga.
For those who haven’t seen Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun, you should proceed to do so immediately! This romantic comedy is a must-watch and is currently available on Hulu and Crunchyroll.
