Oh, Canada … made a big mistake. While many people across the country were betting on the Patriots to lose last Sunday, one 20-year-old Missouri college student was betting against all odds on them to win. He decided to make his bet interesting by inviting tennis pro Eugenie Bouchard on a date if the Patriots essentially made the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, and luckily for him (and Tom Brady), they did.
John Goehrke, by the Twitter username @punslayintwoods, half jokingly tweeted to the Canadian pro: “@geniebouchard if patriots win, we go on a date?” at 4:50pm on Sunday. Three minutes later, with a score of 28-3 Atlanta Falcons leading the Patriots well into the third quarter, Eugenie Bouchard smugly replied: “@punslayintwoods sure.”
Looks like Tom Brady wasn’t the only guy whose prayers came true Sunday. Shortly into the fourth quarter, the Patriots kicked it into high gear with unbelievable passes from Brady tying the game up into overtime and leading to the history-making win for the Patriots.
Lesson learned. Never bet against Tom Brady ?

Eugenie had one thing to say after the game and it was probably the same sentiment the Falcons’ owner was feeling on the sidelines: “Omfg.” But her reaction did not deter her from going through with the bet. However lighthearted it was she took it seriously. The following day on Twitter, she wrote “…and I will do it, I stay true to my word.”
She confirmed to news media the next day that the date would happen: “You know what? I’ll fly him out [to a tournament],” she proposed, “but besides that he has to be the gentleman and, you know, organize a fun date night.”
Meanwhile, John still can’t believe his own ‘Hail Mary’ worked, “Honestly, if I’m even lucky enough for it to happen and I meet her, that would be good enough,” he said. “Depending on where she wants to meet or what she wants to do, I’m going to try to take her to dinner. See what happens,” he humbly told Chicago Tribune. Goehrke better start Yelping date night spots in Missouri.
But don’t worry, she stayed off Twitter during the GRAMMYs!
Not making any bets tonight ? #GRAMMYs
