Is that a female Link?
Sorry to burst your bubbles, Legend of Zelda fans! But this is Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel!
Entertainment Weekly (EW) exclusively released an image of the LOST alum as her Middle Earth counterpart.
According to the article, the Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug director and co-writer Peter Jackson, co-created Lilly’s character with his partners-in-crime and fellow screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, in order to “bring more female energy” into the fold.
“She’s a Sylvan Elf,” said Lilly. “She’s of a much lower order than the elves we all became acquainted with in The Lord of the Rings. She sort of goes against the social order of the elves a little bit.”
In addition to being a rebel with a cause, expect the Head of the Elven Guard to show a softer side especially with certain characters in the film.
While Lilly does not confirm or deny any romantic involvement with a certain blonde haired elf, the Middle Earth newcomer stated that he is not the only elf that has a soft spot for her.
“Taruiel’s relationship with Legolas (reprised by Orlando Bloom) is significant,” the Golden Globe-nominated actress said. “They’ve known each other since they were children, and Legolas’ dad, (Elven king) Thranduil (played by Lee Pace), has a soft spot for Tauriel and sees something very special in her.
“If you grow up side by side, and your dad has a very special spot in his heart for this young woman who’s a fantastic warrior, I think it’s hard not to noticeher.”
LOTR fans can see Lilly in action when The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theatres on December 13, 2013.
