Singer/songwriter Janita knows how to captivate an audience with her soft, hypnotic vocals. In fact, it’s obvious she’s an expert at it–yet clearly a humble one.
Earlier this month, she played NYC’s Bowery Electric for the release of her latest album, Didn’t You, My Dear?, fresh off of a 10-city tour in Germany. Although she was, by her own admission, feeling the effects of the rigorous tour, the audience was riveted to her emotive performance and slightly self-deprecating, warm personality.
This album is the one she holds nearest and dearest–for the past 15 years, she evolved through a couple of genres before finding the alternative soul niche she now effortlessly occupies and, apparently, discovering her new beginning.
“Of the albums I’ve made, Didn’t You, My Dear? is both my favorite, and the one I’m the most proud of. In hindsight––in writing the songs for it––I was making sense of my past. The creative process was almost like a purge, a cleanse of sorts. But in going through it, I actually ended up taking control of my music, my career, and my life,” the Finland native explained to PopWrapped. “Art is powerful, and making this album empowered me. I cleaned up and started fresh, and now, I’ve never been more excited to be making music.“
The deluxe version of this project features three bonus songs: “Start from Scratch,” “Short Cut,” and “Hunt You Down.”
Today, we’re premiering her new single, “Start From Scratch.” In its subtle, melodic triumph, it’s a perfect reflection of this album’s meaning for Janita.
“‘Start From Scratch’ is the most recent song in this batch, and it’s actually a bit of a taste of what’s to come next. After having arrived at this new and powerful place and after having found new perspective, I am––as the song says––starting from ‘square one.’ It’s a positive, hopeful, and great place to be,” she said.
