The mysterious masked man responsible for the beheadings of James Foley, Steven Sotloff, and David Haines has been identified
by the FBI.
Director James Comey did not reveal his name or nationality. They believe
he was a hostage negotiator for British ISIS fighters in Syria, and a guard for hostages in the ISIS "capital city" of Raqqa, Syria. He may even be the ringleader of the group holding the hostages captive. Intelligence officials also believe he is "intelligent, educated, and a devout believer in radical Islamic teachings."
The FBI has been using state of the art technology to try and recreate the killer's face, using primarily his eyes. They're also analyzing the backgrounds of the videos and trying to find out where the rest of the hostages are being held, and also trying to identify two more men in ISIS videos who have Canadian and American accents.
have said that the man seems to be speaking with an accent that matches accents in the southern U.K., most likely London, Kent, or Essex.
ISIS currently has three more American hostages, including a female humanitarian whose name has not been revealed by the FBI.
Director Comey also mentioned that he believed
ISIS was “looking to try to do something in the U.S.,” but that the group most likely does not have the capability of carrying out a major, complex attack.
