Wait a second. Hold up. The last film in the Divergent franchise has been given a new title. Originally, the last two films were named Allegiant Part 1 and the Allegiant Part 2. This is in accordance with the title of the last book of the Divergent trilogy on which the last two films will be based on.
The new title of the last film will now be The Divergent Series: Ascendant while its predecessor will retain the Allegiant name.
New taglines for both films have also been released, Allegiant reads “Break The Boundaries of Your World,” while Ascendant has “The End Is Never What You Expect.”.
There is no word yet on why a name change was necessary, after all several young adult fiction to film incarnations have been able to pull it off just by using the name of the book it was based on and just adding Part 1 and 2.
The author of the Divergent books, Veronica Roth, has sounded off on the implications of a name change, and it was clear in her blog post that she hoped that any further changes be minimal or, at the very least, maintain the integrity of the characters she wrote:
What does this mean? Well, basically, it means there are going to be some changes, but it’s really too early to know exactly what those changes will be or the extent of them. I know changes always make fans of the books– and the author!– nervous, but hopefully the characters we know (and love. Or sometimes love to hate?) will still be intact, which is really the important thing. I am eager to see how these movies turn out, along with you guys.
Okay, fans, time for YOU to sound off? What are your thoughts?
