On Saturday, September 26th, Wizard World Nashville hosted a Firefly panel in the Music City Center featuring Adam Baldwin and Jewel Staite. Baldwin and Staite played Jayne and Kaylee, respectively, on the fan favorite. This was my first panel ever, and I couldn't have picked a better one to attend! This panel was a fan Q&A from start to finish, and it had me in stitches. Baldwin gave fans a fun Nathan Fillion fact to start the panel off. He shared that Fillion doesn't like when fans grab his lower rib cage in photo ops and he does a little dance to get away. Staite laughed and agreed on Baldwin's impression.
Fans asked where their characters would be if the show was still on or had continued, and Staite said she used to want Kaylee to have a baby, but, now that she's pregnant, she wouldn't put her character through that. Really, though, she'd like to be the Captain of the ship and keep Jayne, as Baldwin phrased it, her "public relations officer." One fan was brave enough to ask Baldwin if he liked Mal (Fillion) or Tom Chandler (Eric Dane on The Last Ship) better. Baldwin called the fan a troublemaker and said he loved both of his commanders like brothers. It was priceless. They talked about on-set pranks -- which they attribute all to Fillion. When asked if they ever got him back, Staite replied, "It wasn't worth it." Baldwin added, "Don't poke the bear."
There were quite a few fans wearing Jayne's signature hat, and, once Baldwin noticed, he decided they should all come up after for a group photo. Staite found Waldo of 'Where's Waldo?' in the crowd, and Baldwin invited them up as well. I never wished I had a Jayne hat more than I did that day! The fans asked great questions, and Baldwin and Staite answered so well and with so much joy. I went home and watched other Firefly panels online, and it's great to see how much this cast is really a family. They continue to be amazing each and every appearance.
Fans did ask if we might ever get a Firefly reboot through a Kickstarter, and the answer was a quick 'no' for legal reasons. However, Baldwin believes, if Joss wanted more, it would happen. Staite compared the show to an ex-boyfriend you have great memories of but never got over. She believes if they tried to do it again, it just wouldn't be as special.
