Benedict Cumberbatch might actually win the award for the busiest actor right now. He has just finished filming season 3 of Sherlock
and The Fifth Estate
has just premiered at Toronto International Film Festival. However, there appears to be no rest for the wonderful Mr. Cumberbatch, as the first pictures
from The Imitation Game
have been released.
Cumberbatch is playing the role of Alan Turing in the biopic of the troubled and tragic mathematician. Turing was instrumental in cracking the Enigma code at Bletchley Park during World War II, however his personal life was a tragic story.
Turing committed suicide in 1954, after been convicted for “indecency” because he was gay, and it was still a criminal act at this time in the United Kingdom. He was chemically castrated as punishment for the crime and this was thought to be the thing that drove him to commit suicide.
The film which began filming in London this week also stars Keira Knightley, Charles Dance, Skyfall
’s Rory Kinnear and Downton Abbey
star Allan Leech.
The screenplay was written by Graham Moore, and is based on the book Alan Turing: The Enigma
by Andrew Hodge.
