I’m always a little hesitant when someone announces they are remaking an iconic film. This was also the case when I heard Annie
was getting a re-haul despite the talents of Will Smith and Jay Z, who are backing the project.
I just can’t imagine an ensemble that will even come close to outdoing the original all-star cast which included Carol Burnette, Albert Finney, Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters. It was musical and acting perfection; and I just can’t imagine it getting better than it was, and still is.
With that said, I am hopeful that the new adaption will at least be entertaining, despite some confusing cast choices. Jamie Foxx is taking the lead as Daddy Warbucks with little Quvenzhané Wallis taking on the role of Annie herself. It was really the choice for Miss Hannigan that has me all confused; Cameron Diaz?

With all the spunky comedic actresses in Hollywood right now, and despite my affection for Diaz (in the right role) this is not one of them. Does anyone remember her singing in My Best Friend’s Wedding
? Granted she was meant to sound tragic, but nonetheless…there were other options casting directors! Sandra Bullock, Kristen Wigg, Melissa McCarthy…Jane Lynch to be honest seems perfect!
Anyway, rant over.
Filming is currently underway in New York and is slated to hit theaters Christmas Day 2014.
What are your thoughts on this remake and the casting decisions? Anything you would change?
