Ever since he won his well deserved best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Professor Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, Eddie Redmayne has been keeping busy.
Now, his new project, the film adaptation of David Ebershoff’s historical novel The Danish Girl, is edging ever closer to release and now the first trailer for the movie has been revealed.
Redmayne plays Lilli Elbe, who was born as a male in 1882 then transitioned to female in the 1920’s supported by his wife Gerda, played by Alicia Vikander. The transition meant Elbe became one of the very first people to undergo gender confirmation (otherwise known as re-assignment) surgery.
Tom Hooper who directs the movie has said of the script:
I wept three times. With Lili I was moved by the power of love as an agent of transformation, even when the world was against it.
Of Redmayne, who he directed in the Oscar winning Les Miserables, he added:
He connected to the journey that all us humans go on to be the best versions of ourselves.
The Danish Girl opens in New York and Los Angeles on November 27 before its expanded release in December.
