Dong Nguyen's addictive mobile game Flappy Bird may be gone, but not forgotten, as other games have begun surfacing to fill the void it left behind. Most prevalent among them is FlapMMO, a massively-multiplayer online version of Flappy Bird that adds the new twist of being entirely online. Players are able to get a fix of the simple one-button gameplay that fueled their addiction to Dong Nguyen's now-defunct app game, while up to 1,000 total players flap and flounder right alongside them in real time. Despite their nearly-identical characteristics, FlapMMO has been described as more difficult than the original title it's based on. Distraction is a likely factor, as it's quite a sight to see many hundreds of pixelated birds all rising, dipping and crashing at the same time. To dispel rumors online, Nguyen also confirmed that his decision to remove the app had nothing to do with threats of legal action from Nintendo. However, since making Flappy Bird unavailable for purchase, Nguyen has received numerous death threats and suggestions for suicide from the ever-wonderful Twitter community. While this is nothing new for anyone accustomed to interactions online, Nguyen had originally sought to take down Flappy Bird as its viral success “ruins my simple life.” He went on to say that he, “couldn't sleep” and that, “I have thought it through... My life has not been as comfortable as I was before." Thankfully, the young Vietnamese developer later stated that, "After the success of Flappy Bird, I feel more confident, and I have freedom to do what I want to do." With any luck, mobile gamers will be able to look forward to additional titles from Nugyen in the future.   Hopefully he will also be able to find peace (and maybe even a little support) from the many irate consumers that supposedly adored his work. (Other knockoff Flappy Bird titles include 'Maverick Bird', 'MegaFlap!', 'Flappybalt' and 'Floculous Bird').
