They were one of the biggest American rock bands in the 1990s and 2000s. They produced some massive hits including “Everlong”, “Learn To Fly”, “Times Like These” and “Best of You”. Then during a concert in New York City in September 2012, frontman Dave Grohl announced that Foo Fighters would be taking a hiatus.

Speaking to the crowd of 60,000 Grohl said, “This is the show where we come out and we play as many songs as we can in a short period of time, because, honestly, I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again and this is the perfect place to do it, right now, tonight.” Fans rightfully were eager to know more about just what he meant by that.

Grohl then penned an open letter to the fans via the group’s Facebook page where he confirmed that “Yes… I was serious” and that he was “not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again”. However, he did reassure fans that he never want[s] to NOT be in this band”.

Fans were then rewarded back in August when he announced that the band were working on a new album due to be released in 2014.

Now fans are to be further rewarded for their patience with the announcement of a return concert.

Foo Fighters will be performing at the Foro Sol stadium in Mexico City on December 11 and 13. The December 13 gig was announced on October 25, with the second concert released on October 31.

The National will be their opening act.

Tickets are available through their website. Unfortunately no other concert dates or cities have been announced as yet, though fingers crossed we get news of a world tour soon.
