Fox Cancels Pitch After One Season

Fox cancelled the drama series Pitch after just one season. The series followed Ginny Baker as the first female player in the MLB.

It’s official. Fox cancelled the drama series Pitch after one season. This isn’t a complete surprise since Fox opted not to pick up additional episodes of the series and recently released the show’s writers a few weeks ago.

The series starred Kylie Bunbury (Ginny Baker) as a rookie pitcher and the first woman to play in Major League Baseball. It also starred Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Mike Lawson) as Padres’ captain and mentor. Mark Consuelos (Oscar Arguella) served as the team’s general manager and Dan Lauria (Al Luongo) portrayed the team’s manager.

Executive Producer Kevin Falls broke the news about the cancellation to fans via Twitter. In addition to thanking the cast and crew, Falls also made sure to thank the fans for trying to save the show. Although the show had an interesting premise and a solid cast, the ratings were just not there.

With a heavy heart, Kylie Bunbury shared the following on her Instagram account.

Dan Laura also took to social media to share a message with fans.

Throughout the course of the season, Ginny struggled with not only being a rookie but being the first female player and all the attention that followed. She developed a close friendship with Mike and the two ended up kissing in the second to last episode. They both ignored the kiss in the following episode and he ultimately decided to reconcile with his wife, frustrating Bawson fans in the process. Ginny’s season ended with an injury and the second season would have focused on her earning her spot back. It looks like we’ll never know if things work out with Mike and his wife or if he has lingering feelings for Ginny.

Ginny is very much alone and doesn’t have a lot of allies. We wanted to go into season two with the question of how did she pick up the pieces? Who came to her side? Did she do it alone? Are there new people trying to help? She got over an obstacle when she became the first female pitcher in MLB and we wanted to set her up with significant obstacles in the second season,” Falls shared.

Season 1 contains ten episodes and the final episode of Pitch aired on December 8, 2016. No word on what’s next for Bunbury, but Consuelos will be headed to Riverdale as Veronica’s father, Hiram Lodge.
