Superheroes are taking over the movie and the television landscape as FOX has just confirmed that they are working on an X-Men
television show! But, as is the case with most comic book properties, the question of rights has to be negotiated first.
Century Fox controls the film rights to the X-Men
characters, the comic is still owned by Marvel, which is owned by Disney. And FOX cannot go ahead with a live-action series without Marvel’s permission.
FOX Entertainment chairman Gary Newman told TV Insider
, “It’s in negotiations. We’re cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with them. That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative.”
Because the project is still being negotiated, no details have been revealed about any potential story-lines, directors or what X-Men
universe the show would explore. This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen the X-Men on FOX, from 1992-1997, they aired an X-Men
animated series. FOX doesn’t expect the series to launch until the 2016-2017 seasons. Until then, there will be plenty of X-Men
to keep us entertained with X-Men: Apocalypse
films on the way!
