Rising talent Frankie Z strips back Madonna’s classic “Like A Prayer” with a riveting cover…

This year, Pop Icon Madonna celebrated the 25th anniversary of her massively iconic single “Like A Prayer.” The track and its accompanying album solidified the “Material Girl’s” legacy as a hitmaker and game changer. As her voice rose to euphoric heights over a soulful choir, Madonna moved the pop game ever forward and created a masterful moment in history.

In honor of the track’s milestone anniversary, New York crooner Frankie Z put his own spin on the Madonna classic. Inspired by Madonna’s ability to endlessly and effortlessly reinvent herself, Frankie decided to breathe new life into “Like A Prayer” by transforming it into a ballad.

It’s a big risk, and it pays off…

Frankie’s cover strips back Madonna’s effervescent production in favor of aural synths, and he approaches the lyrics with a thoughtful devotion. The track resonates with a quiet power that is vastly different but equally as alluring. Frankie’s voice emotionally soars over the production becoming more desperate as he soldiers onward. There is an almost haunting quality to the performance that brings something new and different to the mix.

The accompanying visual provides even more depth, as Frankie struggles to save a lover from her demons. Dancing in an open field, his beautiful romantic interest is a gorgeous but elusive character that needs saving.

“I wanted it to be a love story,” Z explained regarding the visual; however, every love story does not have a happy ending. This is one of the more challenging love stories, as Z’s lover seems to struggle with addiction of some sort. “No matter how much I love her and no matter how much I chase her – I can’t save her” he said of the piece. The story of unrequited love takes on a tragic turn, but Frankie Z refuses to abandon his partner.

“Like A Prayer” is a daunting track to tackle, but Frankie Z’s performance adds a refreshing new chapter to the it’s history. The music video in particular is an impressive feat that manages to be both heartfelt and just controversial enough to do Madonna proud. This rendition of “Like A Prayer” tells the story of unrequited love, but Frankie Z refuses to give up.

Rumor has it that the tale will continue with his next visual, and we’re hoping for a happier ending.
