FUNimation Entertainment broke quite a few hearts after announcing the delay of the home video release of Free! Eternal Summer, which was set to release September 29. FUNimation has now announced a new release date and a pleasant surprise along with it. Free! Eternal Summer will be released on February 16, 2016 on Blu-ray and DVD. Now, onto the surprise: the unaired episode of Free! Eternal Summer, which was set to have a separate DVD/Blu-ray release, will now be included in the Free! Eternal Summer series release. The hit sports anime will be available in three editions, all of which will feature the unaired episode: the regular Blu-ray/DVD combo pack; a limited edition that includes the chipboard art box; and a premium edition that comes with an art book, arts cards, decals, a sports towel and a collector’s box.

Anyone who pre-orders the premium edition will automatically be placed in a raffle to win a full-scale figure (1/8) of Haruka Nanase. See the image gallery below to get a sneak peek at all the different options, including the figure!

Free! Eternal Summer, the second season of Free!, made waves with its premiere last July and was streamed on both FUNimation and Crunchyroll. FUNimation was unable to license Free!, with the license instead going to Discotek, who released the first season on DVD with English subtitles in May.

Free! Eternal Summer includes a stellar English dub that features the following cast:

  • Todd Haberkorn (Hetalia) as Haruka Nanase

  • Johnny Yong Bosch (Durarara!) as Makoto Tachibana

  • Greg Ayres (6) as Nagisa Hazuki

  • Michael Tatum (Black Butler) as Rei Ryugazaki

  • Vic Mignogna (Fullmetal Alchemist) as Rin Matsuoka

  • Ian Sinclair (Space Dandy) as Sosuke Yamazaki

  • Jerry Jewell (Baccano) as Momotaro Mikoshiba

  • Josh Grelle (Attack on Titan) as Aiichiro Nitori

  • Robert McCollum (Death Parade) as Seijiro Mikoshiba

  • Jamie Marchi (Soul Eater) as Gou Matsuoka

  • Caitlin Glass (Ouran HSHC) as Miho Amakata

  • Christopher R. Sabat (Dragon Ball Z) as Goro Sasabe

  • Clifford Chapin (Tokyo Ghoul) as Takuya Uozumi

  • Micah Solusod (Noragami) as Kazuteru Minami

The ADR director for the series was the fantastic Jerry Jewell with J. Michael Tatum adapting the original scripts and Alyssa Galindo & Kenneth Thompson serving as ADR engineers.

A third season for Free! seems unlikely; however, there is a film coming our way! High Speed! -Free! Starting Days-, which was inspired by the novel High Speed!, will open in theaters in Japan on December 5.

If you haven’t seen Free! or Free! Eternal Summer, then I recommend you do so immediately! It’s a sports anime packed with feels, lovable characters and an outstanding original soundtrack; in other words, there’s more to the series than just the fan-service you occasionally see!
