Comic book illustrations have long played second fiddle to visual art forms perceived as more sophisticated, such as sculpture, landscapes, and portraits. Perhaps that perception is finally shifting in modern times, as comic book characters such as Superman and Captain America have now reached the status of cultural icons.
Modern artists of all genres and approaches themselves have certainly embraced comic book characters as subjects of value, and one artist in particular is re-interpreting classic Comic figures using the very traditional medium of watercolors.
French painter Blule’s vision of comic book favorites has resulted in eye-popping watercolor renditions that are both simple and complex.
