Staff WriterWhoever said nothing good comes out of Facebook? Certainly not one couple from Washington D.C. who have Facebook to thank for their first son, Kyler. A little over three years ago, Brad Benton and Brad Leston placed an advertisement on Facebook in hopes of finding someone who was looking for a home for their child. They placed the advertisement out of desperation after they were waiting for nine months on an adoption placement list where they were getting no hits. Miraculously, in less than 24 hours after they placed the ad, the couple received a notice from a woman who would eventually give them their first child. Instinct Magazine was able to check in on one of Facebook’s favorite couples as part of the celebration of the social network’s ten year anniversary, and to ask them about the creation of their very modern family. Over the course of the interview, Brad and Brad share the story of how they first met, the decision to take out a Facebook ad in order to find a child, and the expectations they had following the placement of the ad. They explained that once they posted it their inbox filled up with many messages of support and positive notes saying things along the lines “If I could have a baby for you, I would do it a heartbeat!” When asked about what their adoption process would have looked like had the Facebook ad not work, Brad Benton very touchingly explained that they truly feel like Kyler was meant to be their son and it would be hard to imagine their lives any differently. As far as the media attention goes surrounding their family, Leston says: “We are always surprised that people are drawn to our story. We consider ourselves a normal family, same as anyone else. Our method of growing our family might be a little different from others, but our goal is still the same—a happy and healthy family.” In addition to that, little Kyler has been loving the extra attention that follows them and he is a true natural in front of the camera.
