Together they created one of the biggest comedic successes in the last few years, and now they are teaming up again. Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo wrote Bridesmaids
three years ago, and the little comedy turned into a giant pop culture hit. Now they're at it again
with another comedy about best friends doing...best friends things, I guess?
Wiig, who was a cornerstone of Saturday Night Live
while she was a cast member, has gone on to some incredible film roles, including the comedic (Anchorman 2, Bridesmaids
) and the dramatic (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, The Skeleton Twins
). Now in addition to writing, producing and starring in this currently untitled film with real-life friend Mumolo, Wiig will also be making her directorial debut. Wiig said: “I’ve been wanting to direct for some time now. This seems like the perfect first project.”
Mumolo and Wiig were nominated for Academy Awards for Bridesmaids
two years ago, and when talking about their reteaming, the ladies said: “We’re very excited to be writing. We will be going into a cave for months to finish. An actual cave. We found one that’s nice and big. We’re putting a couch in there.”
There is no official production timeline yet for this film (there isn't even a title yet), but we can rest assured that Wiig and Mumolo are a hilarious power team, and whatever they come up with will be both profound and gut-bustingly hilarious.
