George Clooney is not everyone’s favorite actor. London Mayor, Boris Johnson, for instance, has a beef with the actor. I guess it’s true, not everyone will like you – even if you’re George Clooney. While Clooney was visiting London, to promote The Monuments Men last week, he suggested that the 2500-year-old Elgin Marbles should be returned to Athens. These ancient sculptures were removed from the Parthenon by Lord Elgin. Ultimately, he sold ‘them to the British government’.  And now, these marbles are housed within the British Museum. "Maybe it wouldn't be a bad thing if they were returned. I think that is a good idea. That would be a very fair and very nice thing. I think it is the right thing to do,” he suggested. But, as stated, this did not please the London Mayor. Johnson scoffed in an interview with The Telegraph, "Someone urgently needs to restore George Clooney's marbles. Here he is plugging a film about looted Nazi art without realizing that Hermann Göring himself had plans to plunder the British Museum. And where were the Nazis going to send the Elgin Marbles? To Athens!... He should stuff the Hollywood script and stick to history." What is the The Monuments Men about? It follows an American mission to save and recover works of art the Nazis stole. It’s set during the end of World War II. So, what do you think? Should the monuments be returned? Should Britain keep them? Share your comments below!
