Get Ready For Girls' Season 3 With A Behind The Scenes Look

Clare Sidoti

Managing Editor

It seems forever since we were able to join Hannah, Marnie, Shoshanna and Jessa as they stumbled through life and love in Brooklyn, so it was with much excitement that we learnt that Girls would be returning for its third season on January 12. Along with the longed-for announcement, HBO also released a behind-the-scenes featurette on Friday giving fans a sneak peek at what to expect on the Girls’ third outing. And if you’ve ever wondered whether stars see those random thoughts and comments you send to them, or about your favourite series, creator and star Lena Durham (Hannah) revealed the influence they have on her. “I love watching the show and just refreshing, refreshing, refreshing Twitter,” Dunham said. “I really get to find out in real time whether we’re on to something and whether things feel real, because that has always been the intention of the show.” So what glimpses of season 3 does the video provide? Well firstly Hannah and Adam (Adam Driver) are back together and it appears that things have been worked out with her book editor following the threat of legal action if she didn’t finish her book in the season 2 finale. Marnie is “manically grieving” following the split with Charlie (Christopher Abbot). While the couple had a steamy reunion in the season 2 finale, when the news broke in April that Abbot was leaving the series, we knew a split is imminent. However, for it to have hit Marnie so strongly will make for interesting viewing over the season. And Elijah (Andrew Rannells) has returned. Dunham describes Rannells as being “so much fun… we needed that guy on the show.” Though its disappointing that The New Normal was cancelled after one season, the fact that Rannells is freed up to appear more on Girls, definitely is a silver-lining to that dark cloud. Girls returns to HBO on January 12 at 10/9c with two back-to-back episodes.
