Spring break is coming, and many families will soon be taking to the open road and friendly skies to their great American vacations. In honor of the yearly sojourns taking place across the continent I have compiled a list of some of the most lovable, funny and terrifying scenes filmed at airports. Whether they inspire you to get up and go or compel you to opt for the staycation, there's no denying that a good airport scene can get right to your heart. As there are literally hundreds of scenes set in airports, I chose ten clips that have personally watched...
The Wedding Singer (1998)- Robbie (Adam Sandler) chases after Julia (Drew Barrymore) before she makes a big mistake in marrying Glenn (Matthew Glave).
Dumb & Dumber (1994)- Lloyd (Jim Carrey) tries to get Mary's (Lauren Holly) briefcase full of ransom money back to her before she flies to Aspen.
Rain Man (1988)-Charlie (Tom Cruise) is trying to get his brother Raymond (Dustin Hoffman) onto a plane, but Raymond isn't having it.
Love Actually (2003)-The Prime Minister of England (Hugh Grant) waxes poetic on the amount of love he sees at the Arrivals gate of Heathrow Airport.
Airplane! (1980)- Kramer (Robert Stack) tries to walk through the airport to get to the command center and McCroskey (Lloyd Bridges) but encounters many obstacles!
This is Spinal Tap (1984)- Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) has a huge problem trying to get through security.
Sleepless in Seattle (1993)- Sam (Tom Hanks) escorts his girlfriend, Victoria (Barbara Garrick) to her flight with his son Jonah (Ross Malinger) only to be beguiled by Annie (Meg Ryan) stepping beautifully into the airport.
Casablanca (1942)- Rick (Humphrey Bogart) implores Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) to get on the plane with Victor (Paul Henreid) to escape the terrors of World War II.
Catch Me if You Can (2002)- Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) enhances his pilot con job by surrounding himself with lovely Pan Am stewardesses.
United 93 (2006)- Flight controllers look on helplessly as United Airlines Flight 175 crashes into Tower 2 of the World Trade Center.
Bonus Clip: The Delta Force (1986)- As hostages are being returned to their loved ones, the Delta Force squadron slips out of the back of the plane with their fallen comrade.
As frustrating as it was, there were still a few airport scenes I wanted to add, but I couldn't find any clips. Some off those include: Cast Away when Chuck (Tom Hanks) gets home only to find out that Kelly (Helen Hunt) is married, and that she can't bear to see him just yet; an airplane breaking through the window of the concourse in Airplane!; and, my personal favorite airport scene, Alice (Ann B. Davis) gathering all of the Brady siblings for a Christmas get together in the television movie A Very Brady Christmas.
Do any of these movies bring the desire to travel this Spring Break? Am I missing so many great airport scenes that you think I'm not qualified to have written this article? You may be right! Let me know in your comments below.
