America fell in love with him when he starred in the eighth season of hit talent show, American Idol. While he didn’t walk away with the top prize in that instance, he’s certainly no runner-up since his season ended. His first studio album, For Your Entertainment, debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 and he racked up several international hits with singles from the album, including “If I Had You”, “For Your Entertainment” and “Whataya Want From Me”. Then along came the awards and nominations, including a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2011, an honoree GLAAD Media Award, People’s Choice Awards, Teen Choice Awards and that’s just within the US. Everyone is crazy for Adam Lambert. Now his talent is going to be showcased to a much broader audience as he makes his debut on Glee this week.

As we have previously reported, Lambert’s Elliott “Starchild” Gilbert makes his first appearance in “A Katy or A Gaga”. We learnt in episode 2, “Tina in the Sky with Diamonds”, that Kurt (Chris Colfer) is putting together a Madonna cover band. This week’s episode sees him teaming up with Santana (Naya Rivera) to hold open auditions for the other band members, and in walks Starchild and performs a killer version of Lady Gaga’s “Marry the Night”.

Yesterday, the people at Glee released a behind-the-scenes video introducing us to Adam Lambert providing us with some more interesting tidbits to help us piece together an impression of his character before the episode airs on Thursday.

According to Lambert, Starchild is an NYU “theater geek”. He wants nothing more than to perform and be part of Kurt’s band that he takes everything to the extreme. “I think he’s trying way too hard and doing everything he can to make a good impression,” Lambert said.

Lambert also reveals that he had previously auditioned for Glee before his days on Idol, but was rejected because he was “too old to be in this show”. Thank God for the move to New York City and college.
He has certainly already made an impression on set with cast mates Demi Lovato (Dani) and Colfer singing his praises. Lovato describes his performances as something “unique” and “that you don’t see often”. Colfer remarks that he was “incredible on Idol and is still incredible.”

And the question that many fans want to know… Starchild’s relationship with Kurt? Ryan Murphy has bandied the word “nemesis” around, however, Lambert didn’t disclose much more information. He only very coyly remarked, “I don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Check out the “Glee Welcomes Adam Lambert” video below and make sure you note Kurt and Santana’s reactions to Lambert’s performance… it is priceless.
