Glee's Amber Riley Crowned Dancing Queen

Matthew Lugo

Staff Writer

In an exciting and emotional season finale of Dancing with the Stars last night, fan favorite, Glee star, Amber Riley and dance partner Derek Hough took home the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy. Going into the final dance of the night already in the lead, Riley performed a fusion dance with Hough that combined the dance styles of salsa and quickstep that resulted in a perfect score of 30 from the judges. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba loved it and called the performance “seamless and effortless.” Jack Osbourne and his partner Cheryl Burke, who came in third place, performed a hot and passionate fusion of paso and salsa, which resulted in a score of 27. Corbin Bleu and his dance partner Karina Smirnoff came in second place after performing a somewhat disappointing fusion of foxtrot and the cha cha. While getting to the finals was an accomplishment within itself, you could tell how much pain Riley endured from her injured knees. Riley was able to overcome the pain and injections to shine throughout the season. “I did this competition because I didn’t know if I could do it. I want to do things that scare me. I want to let women of all sizes know, you can do whatever you put your mind to. It doesn’t matter what size you are, what color you are, you can do whatever you want,” Riley said to her fans following her win. Other highlights from the night included dances from Bill Nye, Elizabeth Berkley, Christina Milan, and Valerie Harper and performances from Enrique Iglesias, Ylvis, Lady Antebellum, and Colbie Caillat. Dancing with the Stars will return for its 18th season in March.
