Glenn Close Playing Anna Anderson In Duchess

Glenn Close is set to play the role of Anna Anderson in the upcoming “dark road-trip comedy” entitled Duchess, Deadline reports.

The film is based on a true story, zooming in on the life of a woman known as Anna Anderson, who claimed to be the Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia, after being thrown into a mental hospital in Berlin. Her claim received lots of media attention, and it wasn’t until 2007, long after her death, when it was finally possible to prove that she had merely been an imposter.

The film is set in 1983, when Anderson was probably already 87 years old and married to a wealthy and eccentric American man named Jack Manahan. She was forcibly institutionalised, but her husband came to “kidnap” her, taking her on a road trip through rural Virginia to have the honeymoon they never had.

Because of the film, Glenn Close will be reunited with The Chumscrubber director Arie Posin as well as producers Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn, who she worked with before for the film Albert Nobbs.

Close’s most recent film Guardians of the Galaxy will be released in August, and Arie Posin’s most recent film The Face of Love was released last year. For Duchess, no release date has been set yet, but more news is expected to follow soon!
