Good Morning America’s Amy Robach is living proof that being diligent about your health can save your live. As part of the show’s October Pink Initiative, Robach participated in an on-air mammogram, and the results changed her life.
Following the TV event, Amy Robach was officially diagnosed with breast cancer. While she does not yet know the stage of her disease, Robach has decided to have a bilateral mastectomy.
Robach said she was feeling “reluctant” about having the test done in the first place, but her co-host Robin Roberts – a breast cancer survivor – urged Robach to have it done. She said she had been “putting it off” until that point, despite knowing she was at the age where breast cancer becomes a serious threat.
Robach had her colleagues join her when she made the announcement about her positive test results on air. She said she is “so grateful” that she decided to go forward with the mammogram. She recalls Roberts telling her that if she did the on-air test and saved one life, it would be worth it: “It never occurred to me that life would be mine.”
Ladies (and gentlemen), please make sure to check your breasts regularly. If you find anything unusual, don’t hesitate – call your doctor immediately. This is your life we’re talking about.
