Thought you were okay with goodbyes? Twenty seconds of Jimmy Kimmel’s tribute to David Letterman and you will realize how wrong you truly were. Tissues on hand and a few minutes to watch Kimmel’s appreciation of late night television royalty, the man that is David Letterman.
Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live had viewers fighting back tears while he did the same during his monologue honoring Letterman as he bows out of his 33 year career as a Late Night host legend. The clip that is an emotional tribute to Letterman’s career and the influence he had on Kimmel’s journey to get where he is today is a serious tear jerker.
Describing the show as best he could, “It was weird, even though it looked like every other talk show, it wasn't,” having to compose himself in between words, Kimmel has everyone sad to say goodbye.
"I watched the show every night, I never missed it, but little did I know many years and many pounds later that watching the show was a great education to me," Kimmel said. "I learned almost nothing in college, but watching Late Night, not only did I learn how to do everything from Dave, but the reason I have this show is because the executives at ABC saw me when I was a guest on Dave's show and hired me to host this show, so I want to thank Dave and his writers and his producers."
The heart-warming goodbye is one of the many that aired, along with “famous fans goodbyes” and the hashtag #thanksdave that was soon trending.
With a final thank you and good night, we say thank you David Letterman for making late night TV worth watching! #GoodbyeDavidLetterman
