The Bonne Bell Co., a family-owned business since 1927, is closing its Lip Smacking doors soon. Nostalgia, goodbye!
The company's COO sent the local mayor a letter saying that
they "will be permanently laying off employees and closing substantially all manufacturing and distribution operations at the facility located at 1006 Crocker Road in Westlake, Ohio in connection with the sale of a signification portion of the business." The company will now be known as Bell Family Brands, and they'll just be in the skincare business now.
Sadly, this means that 91 people will also be losing their jobs
But we don't have to rush out to the drugstore and buy every candy- and soda-flavored Lip Smacker we can get our hands on, because the name has been sold to another company. Markwins International Corp. has bought the LipSmackers name. They also own Physicians Formula and Wet n Wild. With a new buyout comes change, and though I'm sure Markwins has big and beautiful plans for the future of Lip Smackers, I do have one request: Please don't get rid of the Dr. Pepper flavor, because that's my favorite!
