Great Scott! It’s Back To The Future Day!

It’s October 21, 2015, which means that it is FINALLY the day Marty McFly and Doc Brown arrived in the future! Join us as we celebrate Back To The Future!

“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads!”

Yes Dad, dad, Daddy-os — it is finally here. October 21st in the year 2015. It is on this date that Emmett “Doc” Brown and his teenage sidekick Marty McFly will be arriving in their DeLorean at 4:29pm. But it might be a little different then they expected when they arrive…

The iconic 80’s movie, Back to the Future celebrates 30 years this year, and I think we can all admit we are a little disappointed in the 2015 we were promised way been then … or maybe not? It seems like the movie did bring us a number of spot on predictions!

While we may not have flying cars, hoverboards, or shoes that tie themselves, there were a number of predictions the movie did get right! Video phone calls are common day practice, watching TV from a pair of glasses is totally a thing, and every blockbuster film comes to us in high definition 3D.  Even on an environmental aspect, car companies are working on a eco-friendly vehicles that can run on renewable fuel just like our favorite time machine. There could even be a chance the Cubs might win the World Series (now who could have predicted THAT?)

In an interview with CNN Money, Christopher Lloyd, who played Doc Brown in the franchise, brought up an interesting theory: Did Back to the Future predict these events, or are they a result of fans striving to reach the ideals writers of the film dreamed up long ago?

Either way, fans of the films gather today to celebrate this TIMELESS classic (see what I did there?) with movie theaters across the U.S. having marathons of the trilogy and the release of the films on Blu-ray (and, most likely, it will be airing on just about every cable channel). In addition to big name companies like Pepsi cashing in on the fandemonium, many one-day-buy t-shirt companies and monthly subscription services are also celebrating with commemorative products and exclusive items.

However, to many, today is more that just finally reaching “the future”. It is the celebration of a cinematic masterpiece that holds a very special place in all our hearts. It has been a film to cross generations, inspire ideals, and launch lifelong careers for the cast. We remember the quotations and the songs, and we still turn a head if we are lucky enough to catch sight of a DeLorean. The movie holds a special charm in its attention to detail, making it enjoyable no matter how many times you watch it.

Speaking of watching the film, how are you planning your Back to the Future Day? Are you throwing a themed party? Going to see it in theaters with friends? Watching it for the FIRST TIME? Perhaps throwing a rhythmic ceremonial ritual … Let us know! What were you hoping to be a reality today? I’m still holding out for Jaws 19

However you choose to celebrate Back to the Future Day, I urge everyone to follow the wise words of Doc — “Your future’s whatever you make it, so make it a good one.”
