There has been a high demand for vampire series for quite some time. However, the supernatural television has hit an all-time high in recent years, with the Twilight series, and The Vampire Diaries just to name a few. Well, get ready to make some room for a new vampire drama, The Strain. The new US series pilot was filmed in September and apparently made quite an impression, because it was given a full series order. Guillermo del Toro is directing the 13 episodes of season one which is set to premiere on FX sometime in July 2014. The Strain is co-created by del Toro, and Carlton Cuse. The story follows Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, played by House of Cards' Corey Stoll, who is the head of the Center for Disease Control in New York City.  Dr. Goodweather’s team is given the challenge of investigating a major outbreak in the city that resembles Vampirism. The new series is loosely based upon the best-selling trilogy, The Strain. It was previously reported back in June that Doctor Who alumni John Hurt was set to play a lead role in the pilot, however his exact involvement has not been confirmed.  del Toro recently released a statement about the new series saying, "The Strain books are near and dear to my heart and now, Chuck and I have the blessing of a partnership with Carlton and FX that holds great promise. Working with FX has yielded an amazing experience with total creative freedom and support." Cuse shared a few thoughts of his own, "Working with visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and the team at FX has been a dream come true for me. Guillermo's epic, cinematic pilot for The Strain starts a chilling and compelling story that will upend everything you thought you knew about vampires."
