Everyone’s favorite volleyball anime will be back for a third season! That’s right Haikyu!! fans, the anime will have a third season that is all set to premiere in fall of this year.

Based on Haruichi Furudate’s slice-of-life, sports manga series of the same name, Haikyu!! premiered in April 2014 and became an instant hit; the first season has a total of 25 episodes. The series was later licensed by Sentai Filmworks and is currently available for purchase on both Blu-ray and DVD.

Sentai Filmworks describes the plot of Haikyu!! season 1 as:

“Hinata may be small, but he more than makes up for it with willpower! Hoping to become the next big name in volleyball, Hinata takes to the court in middle school only to be shot down in his first match by ‘King of the Court’ Tobio Kageyama. Now Hinata is in high school, and he’s more determined than ever to join the school’s team and prove his worth! But when Kageyama resurfaces as a teammate, they will have to learn to play together if they want to make it to the championship.”

The second season premiered in October 2015 and is currently still airing. Crunchyroll is streaming the series with new episodes airing every Saturday at 12 p.m. (PDT).

The manga, which currently has a total of 20 volumes released in Japan, has been licensed by VIZ Media for distribution. The first volume will be available for purchase on July 5, 2016. Haikyu!! made its grand debut in the Weekly Shonen Jump in February 2012 and has remained a part of the Weekly Shonen Jump line-up since then.

Haikyu!! continues to be an increasingly popular sport anime and manga series – one that I dare say is a thousand times better than the popular Kuroko’s Basketball (Kuroko no Basuke). Haikyu!! contains a slew of likable and interesting characters and matches that always manage to keep me at the edge of my seat. A third season is well deserved and one I’m looking forward to watching.
