Can't be in "The Room Where It Happens?" Don't worry, PBS is here to help you get your Hamilton fix.
The documentary, Hamilton's America, has been highly expected after the success of Lin-Manuel Miranda's show Hamilton has been shattering records on Broadway since its inception. As part of it's Great Performances series, PBS will show viewers the show from beginning to its opening night, giving viewers a never-before-seen look at both the show and the history behind it.
This is the second time one of Miranda's shows has been featured in a documentary. His last show, In the Heights, was also featured in a Great Performances documentary, giving viewers a chance to get to learn more about the cast and the importance of a show on Broadway with a primarily latino cast.
Hamilton's America will not only feature interviews from the cast and crew of the show but also high profile figures like George W. Bush, Stephen Sondheim, Jimmy Fallon, and Questlove. It will feature an interview between Lin-Manuel Miranda and President Barack Obama.
The trailer also shows various cast members of the show traveling to historical sites that their characters were once in themselves, hoping to find out more about them and finding out other ways to bring them to life in the musical.
Miranda previously revealed in a tweet that the show was recorded in its entirety with the full original Broadway cast before the majority of them were replaced. Part of the show will be shown throughout the documentary, giving fans a chance to watch small pieces of the show if they haven't been able to yet.
Hamilton has broken records, becoming the most-nominated Broadway show in Tony history, winning 11 of its 16 nominations, including Best Musical. The show has also won a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, becoming the 9th musical to do so.
Hamilton's America will premiere on PBS on Friday, October 21st at 9 P.M.
