On October 30th, 1945, Henry Winkler was born. Exactly 70 years later, Al Molinaro passed away at 96. Happy Days put these two men on the map by skyrocketing their careers -- especially Winkler's. That is why we feel we should celebrate the iconic show on this special day.
Happy Days aired 255 episodes during 11 seasons on ABC, becoming one of television's longest-running scripted series of all time. The show was created by Garry Marshall and starred Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Tom Bosley, Marion Ross, Erin Moran, Al Molinaro, Pat Morita, Anson Williams and Don Most. Happy Days also became one of the shows which spawned the most spin-offs. Eight new television shows were born from Happy Days, including Joanie Loves Chachi, Laverne & Shirley, and Mork & Mindy, in which the late, great Robin Williams got his big break.
Happy Days resonated with audiences because it was full of nostalgia. It presented an idealized, sweet and wholesome view of a middle class family with the typical values of the era, intertwined with the friendship of the lower class Fonzie, a beloved antihero who rode motorcycles, wore leather jackets and snapped his fingers to get what he wanted.
Happy Days was truly a special show, and it made us fall in love with Ron Howard and Henry Winkler each and every episode. To show our appreciation, we have prepared this little quiz to see how much (or how little) you know about our favorite 1950s-based show.
