Oh John Hurt. Oh Steven Moffat.
You two have thrown the whole Doctor Who fandom into a tizzy after that whole reveal in “The Name Of The Doctor”. Everyone would love to know who is Hurt’s Doctor?
It appears that answer has been slipped to the question: “Doctor who?”
Well at least in Hurt’s case anyway. The actor for the Twelfth Doctor appears to still be quite a mystery indeed.
Doctor Who costume designer, Howard Burden, shared some comments during the royal visit in Cardiff yesterday (July 3rd). Burden said that Hurt will play a “dark” version of our favorite Time Lord. He revealed that “there was a gap between Paul McGann playing the Doctor and Christopher Eccleston, when we didn’t see a regeneration, and John Hurt will fit into that gap. He is a past Doctor, not a future Doctor.”
This makes a lot of sense to sharp eyed Whovians. A couple months ago, there was a picture snapped of Hurt with his clothes somewhere in between Eight and Nine iconic outfits. He was wearing Nine’s favored leather jacket over Eight’s preferred waistcoat.
