The creator of popular Danish television show, Borgen, confirms that HBO is starting production on a US remake. After it gained the rights to rework the Danish political drama back in 2011, NBC has since traded with HBO.

Adam Price, the show’s creator, had this to say to Digital Spy: “It’s in consideration at HBO and it’s actually BBC Worldwide who’s going to [produce] it.

“I’ve heard that HBO… want to do it and they’re currently looking into who’s going to be the showrunner.”

Price has expressed his desire to stay on as a consultant for the show remake, with the hopes to advise US team to “turn it into his or her project.”

“Definitely they should drag it into American politics and really make it their own, instead of trying to ‘keep a little Danish’… because that would seem phoney.”

The Danish show appears to be following a similar path to the UK’s Being Human, which ran for five seasons on British television but is still going strong on US airwaves. Price has revealed in a separate interview how the Danish show is in its final series.

Similar to Being Human, the Danish political show is having to recast every role. On finding an actress to fill Borgen’s female lead, originally filled by Sidse Babett Knudsen, Price commented: “They should find their way into the material and I’m sure they have wonderful actresses. They will find her.”

Borgen will begin airing its third and final series at 9pm this Saturday, November 16 on BBC Four. A box set of this series will be released by Arrow Films December 16.
