Good news for Game of Thrones fans who are also Android users!
HBO Now is currently available for Android phones and tablets.
The standalone streaming service comes at a cost of $15 per month but, unlike HBO Go, it doesn't require a cable subscription. The service is expected to be available for Chromecast, Fire TV, and Fire TV Stick in the coming weeks.
HBO Now was available for Apple devices earlier this year. A few months after the exclusive deal with Apple was announced, Google executive Sunday Pichai announced that the service would be available to Android users at some point in the summer. It seems that HBO does Google itself, citing consumer reaction as one of the reasons for the decision. HBO Vice President Bernadette Aulestia said, "We have seen through social media that there is a great demand for the service among Android and Chromecast users."
HBO Now is only available for American subscribers, with the company cracking down on Canadians who illegally access the service. There are currently no plans to make HBO Now available in Canada.
The streaming service offers current HBO programs like Game of Thrones, Last Week Tonight, and True Detective, as well as numerous older television shows and movies.
