HBO sets a premiere date for The Normal Heart on Sunday, May 25 at 9 PM ET.

The TV film is directed by Ryan Murphy and written by the Tony Award winner and play writer Larry Kramer. The cast includes great names like Mark Ruffalo, Matt Bomer, Julia Roberts, Taylor Kitsch, Jonathan Groff, Jim Parsons, Denis O’Hare, and Joe Mantello, who also directed The Normal Heart play on Broadway.

“It was so exciting to be on set with those actors, all of whom I admire so much,” said Jonathan Groff. “Joe Mantello, I was such a huge fan of his work in the play. And Mark Ruffalo is one of my favorite actors of all time.”

The story takes place in New York City in the 1980s about Ned Weeks, played by Mark Ruffalo, who is a gay activist and a founder of HIV/AIDS awareness organization and his partner Felix Turner, played by Matt Bomer, trying to raise the awareness about this disease, and how they face  the nation’s sexual politics, along with their supporters in the medical society, including Dr. Emma Brookner, Julia Roberts, a paralyzed physician who tries to treat the early cases.
