Images from the BBC’s swashbuckling adventure drama are finally here!

BBC One released images from the first episode of The Musketeers featuring Luke Pasqualino (Skins) and Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who), as D’Artagnan and the dastardly Cardinal Richelieu respectively.

Head writer Adrian Hodges said “The Musketeers is a swashbuckler with teeth,” he also added “And hopefully it bites hard and deep.”

Pasqualino wants audiences to watch the show with an open mind. “I hope the audience takes [the show] for what it is. I don’t want them to think this is anything like the way The Musketeers has been portrayed before. I think we have a very different vibe to it.”

Santiago Cabrera, Tamla Kari and Hugo Speer also appear in the drama.

Episode One of The Musketeers will be shown on Sunday January 19 at 9pm on BBC One
