An entire hospital in the city of Lagos, Nigeria has been evacuated due to the Ebola virus
claiming a patient's life.
The patient, Patrick Sawyer, was a finance consultant for Liberia's ministry and had just arrived in Lagos when he collapsed. The doctors and nurses did what they could, but he succumbed to the virus during his treatments. The hospital is still closely monitoring the 59 people who were near the patient, hoping that the virus hasn't spread any further.
Other cases of Ebola have been in headlines lately, with Sheik Umar Khan also falling victim to the virus. Umar Khan was extremely important, as he was one of the doctors who tried to contain the virus. His efforts surely will not go unnoticed, giving his life to hopefully save others.
The number of Ebola virus cases are increasing in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, all countries in western Africa. Since it was first found in that part of the world in February there have been 1,201 people who have been infected and 672 people who have unfortunately succumbed to the virus.
Because of the recent rash of outbreaks, the west African plane service Asky Airlines has decided to suspend some flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone
. We can only hope this horrible and deadly virus can be contained and eliminated before any more innocent lives are taken.
