The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filed a notice on Friday, March 13, saying that the Honda Motor Co. is going to withdraw approximately 900,000 Odyssey minivans because of a fire risk.

Although there have been no reports so far of any fires or injuries caused by these vehicles, Honda said these Odysseys have a pump part that might just increase the risk of fire or cause a fuel leak, in case it cracks. The Japanese supplier, Denso, made the fuel pump modules in the United States. Honda had apparently investigated a few potential causes of cracks in the fuel-pump strainer cover, such as acid from chemicals found in car washes.

The actual repair parts will not be available until the summer, as 886, 815 Odyssey vans will be recalled. The company will, however, provide ‘interim’ parts to the customers.
