How Did Acting Help Jennifer Lawrence's Anxiety?

Nowadays, it’s almost impossible to not know who Jennifer Lawrence is. Her vast resume ranges from barely remembered commercials for MTV’s My Super Sweet 16, to well-loved characters like Katniss from The Hunger Games, and Tiffany from Silver Linings Playbook, a role which earned her a second Oscar nomination and her first win.

If her acting chops and bold character choices weren’t enough to make you like her, then her charming and hilarious personality will almost guarantee that you will.

 The 23-year-old , however, hasn’t always been as happy-go-lucky as she appears.

Lawrence came clean when she spoke to Vogue recently about past struggles. She admitted to having had anxiety issues throughout her childhood and her early teens.

“I’ve always had this weird anxiety.” The actress admits. “I hated recess. I didn’t like field trips. Parties really stressed me out. And I had a very different sense of humor.” 

Luckily for her, (and for us) she found acting. It ended up having such a positive result on her emotionally, that her parents agreed to let her leave school at the age of 15 to pursue a professional career in acting.

“I finally found something people were telling me I was good at, which I had never heard, ever. And that was a big reason why my parents let me do this. One time, my mom was on the phone with my dad, saying, ‘We’re paying for therapy and all this medication, and we don’t need it when she’s here.” The actress gushed.

We’re all very happy that she’s happy too.
