Most people would probably think that if a celebrity’s show got cancelled they would at least get a heads up from their agents or at least someone from the show so they would know before the public.

This seems to not be the case for Alyson Hannigan, who says she found out Buffy: The Vampire Slayer was cancelled from seeing a cover of Entertainment Weekly!

”The day that the Entertainment Weekly cover came out [“Buffy Quits”, March 7, 2003] — that was the day we all found out ‘Buffy’ was over. I was devastated. I was just very shocked,” Hannigan told Entertainment Weekly in an interview for this week’s issue.

Fans of the show will know Hannigan as Willow Rosenberg. Willow was a teenager gifted with powerful magical abilities’ that helped her to defeat vampires, demons, and other evil in the fictional town of Sunnydale.

This year the show celebrated its 10 year anniversary of going off the air on May 20, 2013. Despite the show being off for 10 years the show’s fan base still continues to grow. One of the show’s former villain’s, Danny Strong, talking earlier this year about how popular the show has become.

"It just gets bigger each year. It’s really exciting how much it penetrated this public consciousness in a way. People teach courses about it and there are Joss Whedon courses in universities. People write their dissertations on it," he told The Huffington Post. “It’s incredibly flattering and I’m really honored just to have been a part of it. It’s very exciting.”

Alyson Hannigan also lives on as being a part of one of the most groundbreaking couples in TV history. Her character Willow was in a lesbian relationship with another character named Tara Maclay, played by Amber Benson. Alyson herself is very proud of getting to be a part of this revolutionary couple.

"I was so grateful to have been a part of such a wonderful relationship," Hannigan, 39, said of Willow and Tara in a quote to the Huffington Post. “The people that it’s touched that I’ve met … it’s such a gift to have been able to do that.”

Alyson Hannigan will be closing the chapter to another beloved character next year.

Her show How I Met Your Mother is going into its 9th and final season. You can tune in for the season premiere of the final season on September 23, 2013.
