The cast of Universal's Fifty Shades Darker is getting even more gorgeous with the addition of actor Hugh Dancy, 40, as Christian Grey's (Jamie Dornan) psychiatrist John Flynn. The announcement was made in early April and it has made this fan very excited.
I have always wondered who might be the perfect person to fill this role and I am not disappointed in the choice. Dancy is mature, yet young, dashing and has the kind of countenance that will allow him to be believable as a character so trusted by Christian Grey. Flynn will be privy to all of Christian and Ana's (Dakota Johnson) secrets, so the casting has to be just right.
It doesn't hurt that he is also a very good looking man who will fit in very well with other beautiful members of the cast that include Kim Basinger, Tyler Hoechlin, Bella Heathcote, Eric Johnson and on and on and on... The powers that be really double downed on their casting choices and just thinking about all of them interacting with and around Dornan and Johnson is very exciting.
If the movie follows fairly closely to the book, we will see some eye-opening moments between Grey and Flynn that will finally let the audience know how Grey truly feels about Ana. There will also be the introduction of Elena, Laila, and Jack Hyde as characters--all deliciously flawed and interesting. It is only to be believed that Darker will not be quite as linear and show paced as Fifty Shades of Grey. The additional plot lines and fascinating characters should not allow it.
Dancy currently stars in The Path on Hulu and previously worked on the series Hannibal, for which he was nominated for two Critics' Choice awards. He is married to actress Claire Danes and they have one child.
Fifty Shades Darker is currently being shot in conjunction with the third movie in the series, Fifty Shades Freed, and is scheduled for release February 10, 2017.
