Idris Elba has a famous fan in the White House.
The Sun reported that when the Luther leading man was at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, President Obama confessed that he was a huge fan of the BBC crime drama.
“The Obamas invited me to the White House and I had fun.” the Thor star told The Sun. “(U.K. Prime Minister) David Cameron and his wife were there —— he is a Luther fan and so is Barack Obama.”
While the leader of the Free World stated to Mr. Elba that he was not his favorite character on the HBO American television drama, the Wire, he did pay a complement to the actor. The actor stated that the President added “Well, yeah, but Luther-that’s me.”
In addition to meeting the Obamas and Camerons, The Sun reported that the actor has Prince Charles and Jay-Z in his address book and Daniel Craig has also stated that when he retires from Bond that he wants the Luther star to take the keys to the franchise.
But while he may not be portraying President Obama anytime in the future, Elba will be playing a very important historical figure on the big screen. Nelson Mandela’s family handpicked the Luther family man to portray their beloved patriarch in the silver screen adaptation of his autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, which will be released later this year.
