Iman Shared Touching Messages In Days Leading To David Bowie’s Death

In the days before David Bowie’s death Iman, his wife and supermodel, shared several heart wrenching messages with her followers on social media.

David Bowie once said that the night he met his future spouse Iman, he was “naming the children”. Despite not being ready for a relationship, Iman was won over. She once told The Guardian that she “fell in love with David Jones” not “David Bowie”. Iman continued, stating that “Bowie is just a persona. He’s a singer, an entertainer. David Jones is a man I met”.

The two married in 1992, and have seemed blissfully in love ever since. They had daughter Lexi in 2000, and seemed to settle into something close to a “normal” life. Iman told People in 2005 that she cooked and took her daughter to lessons, and that Bowie and Lexi would constantly play music together. Bowie spoke highly of his wife, saying that her ability to maintain a work-life balance was “uncanny”. Iman said that she found her husband to be a “gentle soul” and that “after all these years” she was still completely smitten with him.

When the news broke of Bowie’s death, the thoughts and hearts of many reached out to Iman. It seemed, however, that she sensed something was about to happen. In the days leading up to the 69 year old legend’s death, Iman posted several messages of grief, hope, and love to her social media accounts, captioning several with the word “rise”.

Her most recent post was a simple black and white image, containing a quote she found to be comforting in her time of need:

Iman shared a classic photo of Bowie getting ready to go on stage as his alter-ego Ziggy Stardust that same day.

Bowie passed away on January 10, after an 18-month battle with cancer at the age of 69. The announcement was made through his publicist, who said:

David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.

He is survived by his wife, and his children director Duncan Jones and daughter Alexandria Zahra Jones. Bowie touched the hearts and lives of millions around the world, and served as the musical and emotional inspiration for a countless number of fans.
