The internet has seen contests for musicians over the years, most of which amount to “exposure” gigs where, in exchange for their creative efforts, artists are rewarded with nothing but bragging rights. That was not the case when independent artist Glenn Case took up a Cards Against Humanity challenge to write a song and walked away with ten thousand dollars.
Instead of a Black Friday sale, the adult party game creators behind Cards Against Humanity paid followers from five to ten thousand dollars for completing certain tasks. If Glenn had been scrolling earlier he may have decided to spend his energy buying a sour cream only burrito or baking biscuits in the shape of Paul Giamatti but, as fate would have it, this prolific songwriter happened upon the challenge to finish a song entitled “Everybody Loves Chowder”. He had three hours to do it.

Glenn is used to working quickly. He’s a regular on the competitive songwriting platform Song Fight, has released over twenty albums (eight in 2020), and is currently writing thirty one songs in thirty one days for “Jamuary” a challenge started by songwriter Jonathan Mann who holds the world record for most consecutive days writing a song. Glenn live streamed his entire writing, arranging, and performing process, as he usually does, and walked away the winner.

When asked how he spent the 10k prize, Glenn told PopWrapped it went to debt, taxes, music making, and VIP tickets for Weird Al Yankovic’s “The Unfortunate Return of the Ridiculously Self-Indulgent Ill-Advised Vanity Tour”. As for what’s next, Glenn, having written music for a web series, says he is available for hire if the price is right but he’s also content to be living what he calls his “happiest worst case scenario” creating, collaborating, and streaming.
