Whilst One Direction: This is Us and The Butler continued to dominate the Box Office, there is one small film that is starting to explode. The Spanglish film, Instructions Not Included, stunned audiences across North America with its $10,000,000 debut.
Instructions Not Included focuses around Valentin (Eugenio Derebez), an Acapulco Bay playboy who is forced to grow up when an ex leaves him with his daughter on his doorstep. The film also follows Valentin’s search for the mother of his child to Los Angeles, where he becomes one of Hollywood’s most popular stuntmen.
The film was also the biggest Spanish-language opening over in the history of Labor Day holiday weekend releases. Instructions Not Included’s success at the Box Office was due in no small part to Derebez’s successful social media campaigns.
The Huffington Post reported that both Texan and Californian movie theatres were packed with people and averaged $28,800 in ticket sales in the 347 movie theatres that bought the film.
