Hot on the heels of the surprise casting announcement of Ben Affleck as Batman in the Man of Steel sequel last week, rumours are spreading about another casting coup. It appears that Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston is set to play Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luther, according to Cosmic Book News.

Apparently Cranston has been signed for a six “appearance” deal though this may expand to be as many as ten DC films. While there has been no confirmation from producers, Warner Bros, or anyone else associated with the film, Cosmic Book News expects an official announcement following the Breaking Bad series finale at the end of September.

No doubt cashing in on the publicity associated with the end of that series. If this news is indeed correct, it will be interesting to see whether Warner Bros are able to keep it officially under wraps for almost a month and a half.

It also appears that DC are planning on utilising their main characters as much as possible in order to create a more “connected world than what Marvel Studios has done so far”.

Along with the rumoured six “appearance” deal for Cranston’s Luther, it appears that Affleck has a 13 “appearance” deal for Batman. Given the fan reaction to the casting news, that might have been a bit premature on the part of Warner Bros. However, we should see what Affleck delivers before casting him aside.

Many fans have eagerly been calling for the addition of Affleck’s mate and collaborator Matt Damon to the Justice League following last week’s announcement and that might already be in the works. Cosmic Book News states that: “DC also does have major interest in bringing Matt Damon into the Justice League now that Affleck is on board, and it is rumored that he is being considered for Aquaman or Martian Manhunter.”
